2009-11-16

According to a study conducted by Gemius research agency with the use of gemiusTraffic analytic tool, after less than 3 weeks since the world première of Windows 7, the number of page views performed with the use of this operating system in the studied countries amounts to 2.69%. It took Vista 26 weeks to attain similar results, which is ten times longer.

The research was carried out on Internet users from: Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Belarus, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia, Poland, Romania, Russia, Slovenia, Slovakia, Ukraine, and Hungary.

At present, i.e. the week between 02.11 and 08.11, the share of page views performed with the use of Windows XP on the studied markets amounts to 75.61%, followed by Windows Vista (19.25%). Among the countries where the study is conducted, the new Microsoft product is the most popular in Slovenia, where the share of page views performed with the use of this system amounts to 4.66%, while the least enthusiastic nation seem to be Poles (as little as 2%).

The data on operating systems and browser reach is published on the free-of-charge gemiusRanking  website for each of the participating countries. It originates from the site-centric research service called gemiusTraffic. The gemiusTraffic tools delivers information on Internet user behaviour on particular websites and on the technological solutions these individuals use. The data is then gathered with the use of tracking scripts embedded within the source code of the site included in the research.

Even before Windows 7 was launched, IDC analysts pointed out that the new Microsoft operating system has a chance not only to change the IT market, but also to have a significant effect on the global economy, not excluding EU member states. According to a report commissioned by Microsoft, over 1.5 million employees of the European IT business will be using Windows 7 by the end of 2010. This accounts for 18% of all IT staff in the EU economic zone.

At present, Windows XP prevails in the corporate environments of Europe. According to market analysts and commentators,  if Windows 7 becomes successful on the consumer market, this will be reflected in the growing popularity of the new Microsoft product in the business sector.
